autumn mist (haiku)

ghostly shadows
hanging mockingly
autumn mist

autumn mist
swaddling trees in nature’s arms
shields their nakedness

a looney or a tooney (troibun)

They passed by him one by one. The sun had just risen and many people shuffled South coming back from their night shift; they seemed to notice him and some would stop by and say hi, or offer him something; others were in their own world walking zombie like; they couldn’t wait to hit the pillow.

And then there was another crowd walking the other direction, very quickly going to their day job. Most of them did not notice him and some even smirked at him as if he were a nuisance.

After the weekend, the morning crowd was not always accommodating.

by the Métro door
sips the last of his coffee
folks rush by

by the Métro door
holds out his Tim Horton cup
longing heavy coins

sips the last of his coffee
the nurse in purple, brings him
every Monday

folks rush by
every hundredth person drops
a big fat toonie

As children and teens they were very close sisters.  And then they grew up and life happened.   Now they are rebuilding anew since their mother passed filling the gap despite the physical distance between them.   Certainly, their mother has a hand in this…

on a park bench
a cool breeze kisses her face
last minute blossoms

a woman walks her dog
butterfly lands on her cheek

both women smile
Mom’s paid a visit

Since today is World Suicide Prevention Day, my writing today may attempt to spread this awareness.

casting shadows
shading old wounds

seeking the light
from dark places

posing like a star
yet, hangs on to dear life
falling leaves

standing by her mate

yesterday’s secrets scream
not a soul can hear
driving her insane

caked with Maybelline
years of practice
hiding his fury

savouring nature (troibun)

Nearing the end of summer is such a busy and pleasant time of year. Fruits are still plentiful at the farmer’s market, we can smell the peaches, plums and first pickings from the apple orchard. Vegetables are in abundance and it is a time to make homemade ketchup, pickled beets and bread and butter pickles. Kitchens are filled with aromas and tiny hands reaching for a spoon to savour the fruits of our mother’s and grandmother’s labour.

first apple pickings

golden honey on my tongue
mixed with lemon and ginger

taste of heaven

midsummer morn
white puffs dancing in circles
moon in the sky

midsummer morn
lazy haze slowly lifting
driving east

white puffs dancing in circles
for a night owl like me
makes me dizzy

moon in the sky
even in light of day
beams at me
