P is for poem

life is what she writes about,
liaisons and love affairs,
rife of erotic passages,
relations…some, short-lived,
brief encounters lost too fast,
she’s wept so many salty tears
grief stricken beyond her years
yet, memories of lovers lost
beget in her sweet moments
where pain and suffering will exhaust
and only images
that burn her cheeks
and warm her heart
shall trickle into heated
words in love poems.

first kiss – after,
a decade of solitude
stuff to write poems

first kiss – after,
too many years
like riding a bike

a decade if solitude
spiritual cleansing
looking within

stuff to write poems
always a good tragedy
love, lust and heartbreak

Crossing the bridge, she looks out the window of the bus and sees most of the ice has liquefied…a patch here and there as a reminder winter kept a stronghold on nature.  What an imposing fellow Mister Winter can be sometimes!

Day 11 NaPoWriMo

Haiku Horizons “fear”

life’s uncertainties (troiku)

the end of winter
that lunar sign
spring festival

the end of winter
prosperous harvests

that lunar sign
without a fear – moonlight dance,
youths bonding

spring festival
yet tragedy hits Kollam,
hear our prayers

My deepest sympathy to the people in Kollam, India.

Sitting on the riverbank, she feels the coolness of the rapids and gently drowns in the moment…

riverbed rumbles
swallows chirp while gulls screech
one melody

Thoughts that tear her spirit, slowly slip into the water, flowing with the current, mending her soul.

bittersweet sentiments
drowning one by one

drowning one by one
sinking to the bottom

At one (haibun)

She writes a haiku listening to Carlos Nakai playing the flute…the sound of earth`s spirit is consuming, seeping into her whole being. Looking at her feline friend, she smiles calling out to her and asking her if she is, too, enjoying the sounds of nature.

The music video is playing on the screen and her feline friend looks at her questioningly, then turns towards the sound…she wonders if her furry friend can see  the breathtaking images of mountains, streams, waterfalls and fauna.

Haiku Horizons prompt today is “one”

Daily Moments March 21 spring-cleaning haibun

One can feel the glow of the sun on the second day of spring despite the cool breeze. She looks out the patio window and sees how spring cleaning is overdue. Some things will have to wait until it is warmer like patio doors but still, it is refreshing to get a sense of renaissance…almost like those last hours of labour before childbirth.

Haiku Horizons’ prompt is “fly”

mama says (haiku ~ troiku)

mama says
don’t talk with your mouth full
mind your manners

mind your manners
opening the passenger door
for his new bride

tossing and turning
robbed of sweet slumber
out of mind

tossing and turning
thoughts of too many should’s
prisoner of self-doubts

robbed of sweet slumber
counting ten thousand sheep
all night long

out of mind
lovers’ broken hearts
out of sight heals

breathe in awareness
breathe out mindless chatter
mindfulness frees

Daily Moments ~ March 6-16 ~ baby girl blessed (haibun)

She was so blessed. How many people can say they were loved and nurtured by two mothers?  She was born a bit early…just could not wait for spring.  Her mother, Colombe, would visit her family every day off work which was Sunday and Monday.

It was Monday and Colombe felt so much energy that day. She was on pins and needles.  She pushed the sled with her two year old all the way to visit her sister who had just gave birth to her third child, a girl, named Maryline and lived next door to their parents.  Colombe had chosen that same name for her baby if it was a girl so she felt a bit annoyed that she would have to choose another name. Marilyn being the most popular name in the 50’s.

Later at almost one in the morning, Tuesday, March 9th,  Colombe gave birth to a baby girl, in her mother’s bed…

her first cry

safe in both their arms,

baby girl loved
